Overview
JA Safety Services (JASS) provide services for any sized company, we can provide a competent person role for small to medium sized businesses, saving you the cost of employing a full time health and safety person at very reasonable cost to suit your budget.We can also provide support for larger companies producing strategies and management systems or simply auditing your present management control systems.
At JASS we understand how the levels of resources can differ from business to business depending on the size of the operation. We have a clear structure of the support we can provide split into 7 clear strands:
Detail of Services
a) Competent Person Provision.
Whereby JA Safety Services will act as the company’s competent person, who will be named on key company documents such as the Health and Safety Policy. The high level of experience and qualifications that John Atkinson Posses MA (Law) and CMIOSH is an impressive way to show the organisations commitment to health and safety.
This will be funded through a retainer agreement to be paid monthly. This will also provide verbal advice either through telephone or e mail and one site visit per year. Any other interventions or provision would be paid for separately through agreement with both parties.
b) Desk Top Service
Companies will be able to send their policies and procedures to JASS for an independent review that will be carried out remotely with no visits carried out, reducing the cost of this service.
The cost will depend on the number of documents to be reviewed.
c) Practical Service
This service could include any or all of the following depending on the organisations requirements:
Ø Health and Safety Audits
Ø Health and Safety Inspections
Ø Assist with Health and Safety Risk Assessments
Ø The writing of Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
Ø To assist Boards in creating health and safety strategies for their business
Ø Providing pro-active advice and guidance
Ø Providing Re-active advice and guidance
d) Staff Training
Ø To provide face to face training for staff on most subjects relevant to health and safety.
Ø Can also provide high level training for Senior Managers, Directors and Boards.
e) Accident/Incident Investigation
Provide comprehensive incident investigation, highlighting immediate and underlying causes of the incident. Producing reports that can be used as simple records or in cases of litigation.
f) Starter packs for new businesses
Provide a starter pack for new businesses with information on what their responsibilities are and sample documents such as a health and safety policy and risk assessment.
g) Face Fit Testing
Face fit is a legal requirement. Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) used must be able to provide adequate protection for individual wearers.

· Managed and mentored a team of Health, Safety and Environment advisors. · Implemented and managed a risk control system to protect thousands of learners. · Lead and manage the delivery of a Health, Safety and Environmental service to provide assurance to internal and external stakeholders on the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control across the group. · Managed the health and safety budget and a team of four Health and Safety Officers within a property portfolio of multiple various sized premises employing over thirteen hundred staff. · Oversaw the correct implementation of risk control procedures by the property and facilities department. |
Skills Funding Agency Health and Safety Manager and Senior Policy Lead for Safeguarding and Quality of Provision for the National Employer Service | 04.2010 - 05.2011 | Working across several Government Departments building effective working partnerships, ensuring the NES and large organisations were represented in key funding/inspection decisions. This also included the management of up to fifteen subcontracted companies. I was employed by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) formerly the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for nine years as the Health and Safety Manager for the National Employer Service (NES). Subsequently also becoming the Senior Policy Lead for Quality and Safeguarding, working to support the delivery and management of employer and provider delivered programmes. Provided advice to the NES in a wide range of quality and health and safety related aspects of work with large National Employers including programme design, improvement planning and equality and diversity.
