Overview
Mike Taylor is a Health and Safety practitioner undertaking consultancy work and Health and Safety training throughout the UK. Mike has been working as a full time independent practitioner since 2001. Health and Safety isnt rocket science. Mikes philosophy is to keep it simple. In this way all employees understand what is required to manage Health and Safety. Muddy the waters with page upon page of unnecessary and confusing documentation, and both management and staff lose interest, and health and safety becomes a chore and not a tool for successfully managing workplace Health and Safety issues. Mike advises a wide variety of clients on compliance with legislation relative to their commercial operations. This includes the provision of bespoke Health and Safety policies and procedures, staff induction etc, and risk management procedures including risk assessment. He also assists contractors with the preparation of RAMS documentation and the completion of PQQs and dreaded third party accreditation schemes such as CHAS and Safecontractor. After setting up Duel Safety, Mikes first contract was managing Health and Safety issues on site during the construction and fit out phase of the Lowry Shopping Centre at Salford Quays Manchester. His second contract was managing Health and Safety site issues for 12 months working at Manchester Citys new stadium on the 2002 Commonwealth Games. This role involved dealing with a wide variety of complex and dynamic issues to very strict deadlines. During 2002 Mike began working for the then HVCA, now known as the B&ES ( Building and Engineering Services Association). This initially involved delivering Health and Safety training to members employees as part of their ongoing CPD. Over the last decade Mikes relationship with the B&ES has grown and developed. He has, among other projects, written five Health and Safety courses for the B&ES, and in August 2013 the Managing Safety Course was accredited by IOSH. The course is the HVAC equivalent of the IOSH Managing Safely Course. Mike delivers B&ES and other bespoke courses on a national basis and can draw upon his experience of working on the tools in construction, as an Overhead Linesman on 132kV, 275kV and 400kV power lines and also as an Extra High Voltage Cable Jointer on 132kV and 275kV cables. Working with clients from the HVAC industry Mike has developed a unique RAMS software programme specifically for use by Air Conditioning contractors. The software enables site specific RAMS documentation covering all aspects of the work and equipment used to be generated literally in minutes. The software is being launched in September 2013. Future developments include RAMS software for heating contractors. Please call me for an informal discussion on how I can help you with any health and safety concerns you may have. Mike is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and also a full Member of The International Institute of Risk Management.
