Mr Alan Smurthwaite

I have a strong reputation for building strong working relationships with stakeholders, customers, suppliers and safety representatives, and have a proven track record of delivering improved performance results in the key areas of cost reduction as well as increased quality, efficiency and productivity. One of my strongest points is my ability to accurately read, analyse and interpret safety related instructions, technical procedures and government regulations.

Health and Safety Service Delivered
Many organisations are unable to justify employing their own professional staff to guide them through the maze of legislation compliance. Others do have these personnel but find that some projects need additional resources or specialist technical input. The Safety Advisor Service provides you with your own expert advice. The range of support services is wrapped into a package specifically designed to meet your individual needs and resources, therefore, making it bespoke and relevant.
I work with the client to identify the most effective way to manage safety, health and welfare. That includes:
- Identify which health and safety legislation is most appropriate to the business
- Establish effective line management control and auditing of workplace safety
- Set in place emergency procedures such as accident reporting and fire management
- Provide suitable information to employees, including specific safety rules
- Support on key subjects, such as accident reporting and investigation, risk assessments and health and safety inspections
- Provide information and instruction to managers and supervisors on how Risk Management should be undertaken, along with suitable forms and systems needed to manage the risk assessment process
- Maintenance of key work equipment
- Health and safety training
- Provision and use of Personal Protective Equipment
- Maintenance and testing of fire safety systems and equipment
At intervals convenient to you, I can visit to evaluate and review any Safety Management System. A review of health and safety documentation will identify its suitability, effectiveness and use. A site evaluation will identify shortfalls in both compliance and management standards. At the end of the visit discussion of the outcomes will lead to an agreed Action Plan.
Following the inspection(s) a written Site Evaluation Report, containing evidence of advice provided, and the agreed Action Plan is sent to you.
The Action Plan will contain items and actions pertinent to the improvement of Health and Safety Management together with relevant timescales.
