·         Develop and implement Safety Management System (SMS) for the Council

·         Measure SMS implementation and compliance via audit visits to sites/activities

·         Lead/support complex investigations into accidents and work-related ill health

·         Liaise with external bodies – HSE, Fire Service, Police and Insurers

·         Support managers in a wide range of service areas to undertake and implement risk assessments

·         Respond to wide range of H&S enquiries from all levels of staff

·         Sit on the York Safety Advisory Group (SAG)

·    ·  Lead directorate H&S meetings, sharing information, briefing on legislative/policy changes and providing feedback on incident trends and other issues

·         Produce reports for the Council’s Joint H&S Committee

·         Develop & deliver H&S training (including Managing Work at Height, Risk Assessment, Incident Reporting & Investigation, Safety Culture, DSE)

·         Edit H&S section of Intranet site

·         Provided H&S advice and support to all staff and directorates

·         Undertook annual H&S audit and deliver action plans & annual report to Board of Directors

·         H&S training lead for all staff

·         Led on investigating accidents & serious untoward incidents – review non-clinical claims

·         Chaired H&S Committee

·         Responsible for H&S Policy – monitored and reviewed standards; input to other H&S and risk management policies and procedures including Patient Safety

·         Liaised with other service units across the Trust (eg Occupational Health, Legal Services, Facilities, Infection Control etc), and external bodies eg HSE, NPSA, DoH
