Overview
As director and principal consultant of BSS I provide professional health and safety consultancy specialising in construction, education sector and training.
Construction: writing policies and procesures, construction phase plans, RAMS and preparation of other site H&S documentation and templates, carrying out site visits, auditing sub-contractor compliance and support with PQQs, CHAS, etc.
Education sector: Safety in curriculum e.g. science, sport & PE, D&T, art, theatre, planning educational visits and working with LAs and union reps, as well as safety in premises management such as fire risk assessments, site inspections, local asbestos management plans, legionella control, statutory inspections, and the slection and control of contractors incl construction projects.
Tailor-made H&S training: management of health and safety, risk assessment, cable location with CAT & Genny, manual handling, changing of abrasive wheels, temporary roadsigns (red book), managing contractors. Of course I also advise and support clients when dealing with the Enforcing Authorities, incident investigation and auditing.
All clients are provided with their own secure online portal which allows for effective management of documents and statutory compliance.

Fees
Fees will be charged according to client needs, ranging from one-off payments to annual service level agreements and anything in between.
Audits
Carry out either management audits as per HSG65 or mini-audits targeted to particular topics or company departments
Creation of a bench mark and/or action plan for senior management
Construction Work
Advise and support the client, designer or contractor with their CDM health and safety duties.
Create policies, procedures, document templates, construction phase plans, RAMS, etc.
Partaking in construction meetings and taking H&S lead on projects where required
Being the H&S team member of the CDM-C (now PD)
Monitoring and auditing contractors and subcontractors
Enabling clients to achieve SSIP accreditation and pass client PQQ schemes
General consultancy
Support clients across several industry sectors improve their H&S performance and maintain legal compliance
Long term clients have a proven record of improved health and safety performance leading to improved business performance
Actions by enforcing agencies have been successfully challenged or defended
Bespoke Training
Creating and delivering tailor-made training courses to clients
Allowing clients to improve the competency of their staff tailored to client specific needs and in line with their policy and procedures wit minimum impact on service delivery
Noise Survey / Risk Assessment
Noise surveys carried out for several factories and work shops
Risk assessments carried out for a multitude of clients on all manner of topics
Other than introducing further noise controls to reduce noise levels, the assessments have also allowed clients to successfully defend against civil claims

Fire
Carry out fire risk assessments and advise on fire safety controls as well as deliver fire marshal training
The fire risk assessments have resulted in many improvements in fire safety management of clients and competence of their staff.
Succcessfully challenged fire enforcement action on clients and agreed on common sense approach
Manual Handling
Assess tasks requiring specific manual handling assessment ensuring this is correctly carried out.
Deliver manual handling training to staff
