Coordinating strategic health and safety management and policy development across the group, taking a holistic approach to problem solving and ensuring compliance with group strategic objectives.

Developing and pioneering an interactive Health and Safety intranet site, tailored to all divisions within the organisation including Property Management, Development, Corporate Services and European Corporate Development.
Developing annual H&S action plans reflecting the organisations’ risk profile and creating ownership amongst directors and staff.
Embedding auditable systems and procedures that are transparent and measurable for the management of health and safety performance.
Managing and advising on health and safety related budgets across the organisation, maximising resource efficiency and managing consultant input.
Accident and incident investigation ensuring continuous organisational learning.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Executive.
A key member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee chaired by the Chief Executive.
Project management of a range of corporate and divisional issues.
Liaising with stakeholders and enforcing bodies including; suppliers, HSE, Environmental Health and the Fire Service.
 

With over 28 years of experience in a variety of senior roles, including a FTSE 250 residential blue-chip company; a number of large social housing providers, with associated businesses and local authorities.

Managing a team of Safety Advisers/CDM Coordinators and a Technical Assistant at Gentoo (social housing).

Facilitating all aspects of H & S for 36,000 properties and 1700 staff.

Development of an integrated health and management system and development/review of risk assessments and safety method statements etc.

Advising the Client and in-house contractors, developing policies and procedures compliant with all construction related health and safety legislation including CDM.

Acting as Planning Supervisor on a wide range of new build and refurbishment projects.

Providing advice and assistance in the development and assessment of pre-tender and construction phase health and safety plans.

Monitoring the health and safety performance of partnering contractors, principal contractors, contractors and maintenance staff including internal gas and electrical sections across the groups’ activities.

 Active involvement in tenant issues to ensure risks are adequately controlled, minimising risks to tenants, employees and contractors etc.

Developing and delivering health and safety training programmes for all staff, including managers.

Advising Sundrland City Council Public Works Department on all health and safety related matters, across all construction and maintenance activities.

Undertaking regular inspections and audits of activities, developing policies and procedures and delivering training.

Working for Newcastle City Council across all council related activities, including sheltered accommodation, construction, maintenance, schools and advising on health and safety matters in commercial premises.

Development of corporate and departmental health and safety policies, procedures, codes of practice and strategies for cost effective compliance with health and safety legislation.
