HS&E Consultant | 02.2016 - today | I provide health and safety advise on a number of topics to a broad range of companies to ensure they successfully meet both their legal and moral obligations with regard to protecting those exposed to risk from their business; I undertake risk assessments for clients, reviewing their hazards and helping them to identify suitable controls to protect individuals who could be harmed. These are used to create safe systems of work that are both safe and financially viable. I undertake site inspections across various construction sectors to help clients identify deficiencies in their health and safety management before they cause harm. I also work with the clients to identify suitable solutions to issues identified using my extensive knowledge of the application of safety control gained whilst working for Tata Steel; I have successfully implemented safety management systems to meet the requirements of OHSAS 18001 to ensure company policies and procedures meet the numerous clauses contained in the standard. This has involved working with senior managers to ensure the system meets their needs and is successfully taken on board by all in the company; I deliver a range of health and safety courses including the CITB Site Safety Plus, work at height, asbestos awareness, non-licensed asbestos worker, accident investigation and manual handling. In addition I am a registers NEBOSH tutor for the National General Construction Certificate. |
Health and Safety Advisor | 07.2001 - 02.2016 | I managed a team of 3 Specialist Safety Advisors and a Team of 3 Safety Trainers providing competent health and safety advice for various departments within the Integrated Steel Works at Port Talbot. During this time I developed the skill sets of my team to help them attain management positions in a number of manufacturing companies; I provided competent advice on the application of CDM 2007 and with the introduction of CDM 2015 oversaw the implementation of the new legislation across the business; I managed the asbestos management system for both the Integrated Steel Works in Port Talbot as well as the sister plant in Llanwern, by managing duty holder expectations within all departments and ensuring compliance with the required legislation was maintained under both normal production activities and maintenance periods; I led a successful team responsible for auditing the maturity of health and safety systems across Tata Steel’s European operations. Providing clear assessments of maturity that has helped focus resources into areas of weakness that have greatly improved the safety in a number of manufacturing facilities. I have developed a number of bespoke safety courses to meet the needs of the company in areas such as accident investigation, risk assessment and gas awareness; I have led a team from across Europe to implement a unified accident, near miss and environmental reporting and investigation system using the SAP application. This has led to a more transparent system of reporting and enabled trending to be accomplished on a range of KPI to aid the identification of areas for improvement in safety performance; I have developed the site rules for both contractors and Tata Steel employees that applies to the whole of the Integrated Steel Works at Port Talbot and Llanwern.
