Undertaking fire risk assessments and overseeing the works required to rectify issues.

Liaising with contractors to ensure they are fulfilling their health and safety obligations. Performing health and safety audits on contractors to ensure they are working safely and in line with their safe systems.

All aspects of health and safety management, primarily in social housing, retail and warehousing & distribution including:

• Writing and reviewing policy documentation
• Writing and reviewing risk assessments and safety working systems
• Auditing health and safety management systems and processes
• Investigating accidents to root cause and processing RIDDOR submissions when required
• Liaising with insurers regarding accident investigation claims
• Producing accident and incident KPI information to board level
• Training others in multiple aspects of health and safety
• Procuring and maintaining external services and training services such Hand Arm Vibration, Occupational Health and External Auditors
• Supporting teams with their general day to day enquiries

The social housing sector is varied with many different roles and challenges, I have thirteen years experience in these businesses working with persons at every level.

As Head of Health and Safety for Gaskell Safety Ltd, I undertake site audits and inspections in a range of business types from construction, manufacturing and warehousing / distribution.

As well as being a forward facing and active member of the business, I am also responsible for writing policies and procedures, creating specific training and delivering education and training to all levels in the businesses we serve.

Imparting knowledge is possibly the most enjoyable part of the work I do, I feel that some people find certain elements of health and safety confusing and are often appreciative of the understanding given to them in the simplest way. There is no need to confuse this subject, the easier it is, the more likely we all are to succeed.

I am running Integral Safety Ltd where I currently have one day consulting independently, some of this time is inspecting a new build development in Leicester and the rest of the day is for servicing new requests.

The rest of the week I am working for emh group where my primary focus is the audit program for this very large housing provider. This is a short term contract presently which is due to complete at the end of March 2021.

I like the split week as I get to pursue my goals and dreams of running my own consultancy but also to have the job security of the housing association as this company grows during the pandemic.
