Responsible for the development and implementation of a health, safety and environmental strategy and management systems to the business, contributing to Director’s decision making and prioritisation and ensuring that new and existing properties comply with legal health and safety requirements and current best practice guidelines. 

• Head of the Health, Safety and Environmental Profession, providing guidance and advice, representing safety issues at Corporate Meetings and chairing the Company Health and Safety Committee Meetings.
• Monitoring external developments in Country specific legislation and communication of legislative changes to relevant parties and stakeholders.
• Development and implementation of health, safety and environmental management systems to ensure that health, safety and environment is at the strategic core of all business activity.
• Design and implementation of contractor approval processes and permit to work systems for high risk activities.
• Provision of safety and environmental support for construction projects and refurbishments.

• Setting sustainability and environmental strategies to reduce the organisation’s carbon footprint and environmental impact in relation to waste, recycling and utilities consumption.
• Developing environmental guidance documents and training programmes for tenants.
• Integration of health and safety standards within the asset management process e.g. store fit out handbooks.
• Management of food safety audits for food and beverage tenants.
• Liaison with Investors and other key stakeholders.
• Management of carbon reduction programme, audits and carbon footprint reporting.
• Annual reporting and quarterly reporting to the board.
• Development and implementation of accident reduction strategies.

Undertaking health & safety risk assessments, fire risk assessments and auditing safety managements systems for various prestigious clients within the retail, property and leisure industry.

Providing competent safety advice and coaching to Clients during site inspections.

Managing the health, safety, fire and food hygiene requirements for a hotel Group.  Performing internal inspections, audits and setting targets for continual improvement.  Setting and implementing Corporate Policy. Due diligence audits for all external food and beverage suppliers. Responsibility for legionella and asbestos management plans.

The implementation, management and review of the health and safety management systems for all five brands of a retail portfolio, including the London head office, stores, department store concessions, fleet management and warehouse / distribution centre locations. Responsibility for all 800+ stores and concessions.

Facilities and maintenance management for the Oasis & Coast retail divisions of the Aurora Fashions portfolio. Budgetary control of circa £2.5 million.

Maintenance:

• Sourcing and selection of contractors for planned maintenance and ad hoc maintenance requirements.
• Negotiation and tender of new and existing maintenance contracts, in order to secure improved service quality, value for money and higher levels of health and safety compliance.
• Responsible for sourcing a contractor to carry out a series of access audits throughout a cross section of stores, to ascertain required measures to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.
• Commissioning fire risk assessment programme and development and implementation of asbestos management plans across the portfolio.

• Monitoring of security and fire systems and associated procedures.
• Risk assessment and implementation of safe systems of work, training procedures and review processes.

• Assisted in the initial set up of systems and procedures, for the recording and follow up of potential insurance claims (requiring close communication with insurers, solicitors, stores and internal departments impacted – to Director Level).
• Implementing measures to reduce the risk of further incidents and potential impact on insurance premiums.
• Managing overlap with the property department i.e. ensuring that any retrievable costs are claimed back from insurers.
• Procurement of consumables for stores including stationery, carrier bags, coat hangers and office consumables.
