Overview
My principal area of work is visitor safety management at historic buildings, parks, gardens, coast and countryside, based on experience gained in managing health and safety in the National Trust for 20 years. I also cover occupational safety and health in these environments. I offer advice and guidance on best practice in visitor safety management, incorporating principles of sensible risk management and implementing the guiding principles established by the Visitor Safety Group (VSG). This includes devising policy on visitor safety, setting up and maintaining systems for managing occupational and visitor safety, reviewing and auditing safety management systems and developing organisations' existing internal guidance on visitor safety. I can provide guidance on a site specific basis, undertaking visitor safety risk assessments, advising on pragmatic solutions to manage risks, investigating incidents and assisting with investigations. I can also design and deliver tailored sessions on guiding principles and best practice in visitor safety management.
