Roles and responsibilities:

The Executive Director – CR&S and HSSE had a wide remit of conceiving, leading, budget control and delivery of ACWA Power’s vision to be a demonstrably sustainable and responsible organisation. The role included Group responsibility for HSE & Social issues. It grew from 6 assets + 2 regional offices in ‘09 to more than 34 assets in operation, construction or development, serviced by 8 regional offices spread over 11 countries. This was supported by a small team of dedicated and focused professionals.

Achievements in post included:

• ACWA Power recognised regional leader in HSSE/CSR - added brand value and enabled access to the financial markets
• Established Group wide HSE & Social standards meeting EBRD/IFC/GRI – repeatedly improving YoY performance by 30%.
• Established, grew, managed and assured the performance of a globally distributed HSSE team of > 50 personnel.
• Delivered plus demonstrated group-wide international management practices and performance that met the EBRD/IFC’s Environmental & Social Performance standards enabling a $100M shareholder investment by the IFC
• Member of the Board and project managed the establishment of a self-funding vocational training institute in Rabigh, KSA, with annual revenues of >USD20M, whose focus was to attract Saudi’s into the sector.
• Published one of the first regional standalone annual corporate Sustainability reports that met the GRI G4 requirements.
• The report won the 2015 Asian Sustainability Reporting Awards “Best First Time Reporter” award

Nakheel is a real estate developer and asset manager that developed the iconic Palm Island trilogy and The World projects.  The SGM-SSHE role had Group responsibility for the development and implementation of the SSHE strategy and programme. Reported to the Management Board on SSHE performance. 

Roles and responsibilities:

·       Leadership, conceptualisation, development, roll-out and monitoring of Corporate CSR & SSHE strategy for entire organisation delivering improvements in behaviour, management and performance 

·       Team and operational management of more than 50 Sustainability, CSR, Safety, Health and Environmental (SSHE) professionals delivering services throughout the Group. 

·       Accountable for divisional budget of >US$5M including financial control and contractual negotiations.

·       Official company spokesman with specialities in CSR, sustainability, climate change management and HSE.

T&T is an international project and cost management consultancy focusing on construction and the built environment.  I led the HSE & Sustainability consultancy with operational & business development responsibilities.

§  Start up, development and marketing of environmental and sustainability services team.  Developed the team into a multi-skilled team of 12 professionals with a turnover of >GBP 1M from a standing start.

§  Competitive tender and award of 4-year Environmental Services Framework with the Office of Government Commerce.

§  Delivered Low Carbon 40 year feasibility study for entire Thames Gateway Region,
