Operations SHEQ Manager - Morrison Utility Services. | 12.2018 - 08.2019 | I provided the SHEQ Leadership and managed a team of six SHEQ advisors and three SHEQ inspectors across the Yorkshire Water contract areas. MUS Yorkshire water contract is the largest contract M Group has. £100m contract employing 1000 people across the whole of Yorkshire. I provided SHEQ strategy, advice, guidance and support to operational personnel within the MUS group. I carried out investigations of incidents and provided root cause analysis and RIDDOR reports. I compiled and presented monthly SHEQ performance reports to Yorkshire Water / Senior Managers / contract meetings and introduced new initiatives. I chaired and drove the monthly Senior MUS contract meetings presenting findings and reporting on performance to Directors and Senior Managers reporting on various initiatives, compliance issues and providing ideas to improve performance. I chaired and drove the monthly SHEQ Team meeting advising and guiding project team members. I engaged the operational teams through directing and supporting teams and providing leadership and encouragement to achieve company objectives. I chaired and steered the monthly Contractor's meeting presenting on performance and implementing initiatives to improve performance on the Yorkshire Water Contracts. I chaired and steered the employee engagement forums for the Yorkshire Water Contracts. I reported on SHEQ performance and developed and presented presentations to Senior management, contractors, MUS Group and Clients. I managed monthly stand downs and develop briefing material based on performance and various reports. I liaised with external authorities such as the client Yorkshire Water, HSE, Environment Agency and Local authorities / Council Officials. |

Techrete UK and Ireland Limited. | 01.2006 - today | Techrete is a Specialist Construction, Design, Manufacture and Installation of Architectural Precast Concrete and GRC Panels. I'm responsible for the health & safety and environmental strategy and I lead, develop and drive the ISO45001:2018, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 50001, ISO 6001, Achilles Building Confidence and CHAS standards for Techrete UK & Ireland operations. I'm the line management of two health & safety and environmental managers in UK and Ireland. I also provide SHEQ leadership to the construction project teams and encourage involvement by challenging performance and actively promoting at all levels the commitment to effective SHEQ management. I provide the health & safety and environmental leadership, guidance and support to the design team, manufacturing / production teams, including the joinery, steel shed and production and construction teams including managers and professionals throughout the business. I manage HSE on a portfolio of significant multi £m build projects, high rise developments and luxury apartments throughout UK & Ireland including effective client, principal contractor, employee and sub-contractor engagement. I provide leadership and present behavioural safety training to managers and the operational teams. Incident Injury Free IIF and Work Safe Home Safe behavioural safety training. I manage the training and competence requirements for the manufacturing and construction teams. I maintain the training records and training matrix. I provide training and mentoring. I arrange training for SMSTS, SSSTS, CSCS and CPCS, etc. I manage the health and safety element of the design, construction and civil engineering new build of the factory and office complex in Balbriggan, Dublin, Ireland and also managed the of extension works of the factory in Brigg, North Lincolnshire including ground works, civils and tandem lifting operations HSE F10 Notification. I engage with the needs and understanding of interested parties and have developed excellent working relationships with the various authorities including HSE, EA and local authorities. RIDDOR reports and dealing with insurance and claims. I complete PQQ prequalification questionnaires for the business. I was also responsibile for developing and completing health and safety plans, method statements, risk assessments, COSHH Assessments. managing lifting operations and reviewing lift plans, the production and completion of operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals including As Built drawings. |
Health & Safety and Environmental Manager - Sandtoft Roof Tiles (Wienerberger) | 06.2004 - 01.2006 | Manufacturer - high volume production of concrete roof tiles, reconstituted slate roof tiles and extruded clay roof tiles. UK’s leading provider of wall, roof and landscape products. From the 28th June 2004 to 14th January 2006.
I achieved ‘runner up’ nomination in the British Precast Health and Safety Best Practice Awards 2005.
I revised, implemented and managed the successful transition of the environmental management system from ISO 14001:1996 to the ISO 14001:2004 standard, externally audited and verified by CICS.
I provided leadership and was the go to person for health & safety and environmental management.
I revitalised the safety management system to OHSAS 18001 standard across five factories producing high volume clay, reconstituted slate and concrete roof tiles.

Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance Officer - Trackwork Limited | 01.2001 - 06.2003 | Trackwork is a leading railway engineering contractor for Network Rail. This was my first job specifically working in Health and Safety. I was lucky to work with two ex-HSE inspectors who mentored me through the NVQ process. They taught me all about the legal system, the HSE, legislation, guidance and best practice. They taught me how to thoroughly investigate accidents and incidents, question and interview witnesses and present reports of the findings. I successfully completed NVQ4 occupational health and safety management practice through study during evenings and weekends. I advised employees on implementation of appropriate systems of work to enable company compliance with requirements of legislation and good practice. I visited multi-site operations throughout the country and I audited the SEQ management systems and their implementation, highlighting any deficiencies and report findings to Safety, Environment Manager and Directors. I monitored the management of onsite activities through a formal programme of site inspections - nationwide. I kept up to date with legislation - advise, implement changes / reviews. I investigated accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences as determined by nature and frequency. Terminal Operative - VOPAK Terminals London and Simon Storage Limited in North Shields. | 09.1995 - 01.2001 | VOPAK Terminals London. Oil and Gas, Bulk Chemicals Industry 1st August 2000 to 19th January 2001 I relocated South to this world leader in chemical bulk storage and distribution to further my career and to move into health and safety management.
I completed Gas transfers of CO2 Carbon Dioxide and acted as the Gas Plant Supervisor. I completed transfers of bulk chemicals via shipping, road and rail movements. I worked as part of a small team blending petrol, completing transfers. I also completed drumming of bulk chemicals into 250L steel drums. I set up the machinery and carried out checks and sampling of the product using strict controls and procedures. I completed month end dips/ullages following strict operational and safety procedures (Including COSHH Regulations). I attended and contributed to health and safety meetings. I worked on the potable alcohol storage. I completed food grade transfers and filled road tankers including 97% Alcohol for cosmetic and pharmaceutical manufacturing. I completed alcohol imports and exports into and out of bonded storage using Warrants and AAD’s. I supervised and controlled the loading and unloading of controlled waste.
Materials Controller Simon Storage Ltd. North Shields (Inter terminals). Oil and Gas, Bulk Chemicals Industry 25th September 1995 to 28th July 2000 I first became interested in Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental management here at Simon Storage bulk chemicals storage and distribution. The culture was absolute and instilled in me an thorough understanding of procedures, checks and inspections.
I successfully completed the NEBOSH health and safety certificate at evening classes while working shifts, 6-2, 2-10 and 10-6 and weekend working.
I assisted the storage of bulk chemicals which were delivered by ship and exported via road tanker. I was part of a small team who connected the correct pipework to relevant bulk storage tanks then pumped the chemical into the storage tank, part of the tank farm and stored and loaded onto road tanker for distribution. I completed various checks and took samples before, during and after transfer to check quality and make sure it was safe. Blending, Transfers, Drumming and Month end dips/ullages following strict operational and safety procedures. I connected rail tankers to pipelines feeding into the Shell depot at Jarrow. I ensured each rail tanker was connected to the correct pipeline either, unleaded petrol, Heavy Oil, Gas oil, or Diesel. I took samples before offloading and checked them in the lab for quality, density and flash point. I was actively involved in the safety of the terminal environment and its staff. I completed alcohol imports and exports using Warrants. I completed waste transfers and completed dangerous goods notes. I connected potable alcohol storage, I completed transfers and I filled tankers including food grade Whiskey, Bourbon, 97% Alcohol for cosmetic and pharmaceutical manufacturing. I supervised the loading / unloading of various harmful chemicals including controlled waste. I was a first aider and safety committee member. |
