Mr Michael Simpson
CMIOSH
Overview
I am a Chartered health, safety and risk professional with over 25 years’ cross-sector experience across healthcare, housing, public service, construction, operational environments and commercial settings. As a registered Occupational Safety and Health Consultant, I specialise in helping organisations translate complex legal duties into practical, resilient and defensible safety management systems.
My expertise sits at the intersection of legal compliance, operational reality and Board-level assurance. I have worked across the full safety system lifecycle: from hands-on workplace risk assessment and frontline engagement, through multi-site audit and compliance monitoring, to strategic leadership, policy development and executive-level governance. This gives me a rounded and practical understanding of how safety systems must work for real people, in real environments, under real operational pressures.
As Head of Health and Safety at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, I advise senior leaders, executives and governance groups on statutory compliance, organisational risk, staff wellbeing, assurance and safety culture. My work supports organisations to meet their duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, including Sections 2, 3 and 37, while strengthening legal defence readiness, regulatory confidence and leadership accountability.
I have particular expertise in building and delivering effective safety systems that are user-centred, common-sense and psychologically informed. I believe the best safety products and services are those that are intuitive, proportionate and meaningful to the people who use them — from frontline staff and supervisors through to senior managers and Board members.
Through Simpson-Corp, my approach combines technology, practical safety management and a deep understanding of organisational risk. Simpson-Corp products and services are designed around the user experience, human psychology and operational simplicity, helping businesses move away from overcomplicated compliance and towards clearer, smarter and more effective safety outputs.
My areas of focus include:
Legal compliance and defence-ready safety systems
Board-level assurance and strategic risk governance
Health and safety policy, audit and management systems
Human-centred safety design and behavioural insight
Psychosocial risk, wellbeing and ISO 45003-aligned frameworks
Digital transformation, AI-enabled auditing and Microsoft 365 safety tools
Safety culture, leadership coaching and organisational improvement
HSE, CQC, CDM and regulatory assurance
As a Chartered Member of IOSH, I am committed to raising professional standards and supporting organisations to create safe, healthy and high-trust workplaces. I actively support the principles behind HSE campaigns such as Work Right and Go Home Safe, while helping businesses apply these messages through practical systems, clear leadership and measurable assurance.
My consultancy style is professional, pragmatic and collaborative. I work with organisations to understand their risks, simplify their systems and build safety arrangements that are legally robust, operationally realistic and genuinely useful.
Outside of work, I am an avid dog-walking adventurer, BBQ enthusiast, PC gamer, AI embracer and camping lover.
If you are looking to strengthen your health and safety management system, improve Board-level assurance, simplify compliance or develop more intelligent and user-focused safety solutions, I would be pleased to connect.
