Paul is the Director of Dust2Noise, an Occupational Hygiene consultancy and training company based in Chichester, West Sussex.
Dust2Noise's specialism is RPE fit testing training. Paul is one of 3 persons in the UK to be Fit2fit Accredited in all 3 UK approved fit testing methods. Dust2noise provide the normal occupational hygiene consultancy services such as determining workers exposure to chemical agents (e.g. dusts, fumes, gases, vapours and mists) and physical agents (noise, hand arm vibration etc) and providing training in how to ensure control measures to mitigate employee exposure are not only working initially, but continuing to perform. All this work is undertaken by experienced Chartered Occupational Hygienists.
In 2019, Paul was Occupational Hygiene Manager at Balfour Beatty, the UK's largest construction company. He advised all parts of the business including power, rail and major projects on occupational health risks. He produced new in-house training courses on RPE fit testing and presented the BOHS Certificate in Health Risks in Construction Course at various sites across the UK. He provided advice to large projects such as Tideway and Hinkley Point C as well as contributing to health promotion campaigns on topics such as noise induced hearing loss (NIHL). Paul is on the BOHS Steering Group on the Breathefreely campaign in Construction.
Paul was the manager of the Occupational Hygiene Department at Gully Howard Technical from 2015 to 2018, providing consultancy services to a variety of industries with regard to the assessment and control of chemical agents (e.g. dusts, fumes, fibres, gases, vapours and mists) and physical agents (noise, vibration, heat etc) in the workplace. He is motivated by providing clients with the highest level of technical expertise and reporting in relation to monitoring associated with the UK COSHH, CLAW, CVAW and CNAW Regulations.
Gully Howard Technical has an international reputation for training occupational hygienists. As a main occupational hygiene lecturer at GHT, Paul has guided many trainee hygienists through their OH Learning W500 Training Modules in the UK. He has also taught students oversees, including in Azerbaijan for BP International and Kazakhstan for KPO. In addition, to teaching OHlearning and BOHS courses, Paul has also presented other occupational hygiene training courses such as BOHS's P601 (LEV Testing) and P304 (COSHH Risk Assessment).
Paul worked for the MOD for 13 years, measuring service and civilian staff exposure to hazardous substances in ships, submarines, helicopters, tracked vehicles and at a variety of workplaces at different military bases. This included occupational hygiene surveys during missile launches, military operations, Special Forces live firing drills and Royal Marine Commandos beach assault exercises in Norway. He was also a member of the Helicopter Crash Support Team providing immediate health & safety advice to crash investigators and wreckage recovery teams at rotary wing crash sites. This role included mitigating environmental damage from leaking aviation fuel at crash locations in the UK, Europe and USA.
Paul has gained both the BOHS's Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene and the Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene. He is a Member of the BOHS's Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (FOH), Institute of Acoustics (IOA), Institute of Local Exhaust Ventilation Engineers (ILEVE) and the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES). Paul has Post Graduate Diplomas in Occupational Hygiene (Manchester University) and Acoustics and Noise Control (Derby University).
