Mr Ray Horsburgh
Fellow IIRSM
Overview
I am now aged 57 years and having been an active sport participant now tend to just try and stay ‘healthy fit’ as opposed to ‘sporting fit’. I have been married for 24 years and have 2 daughters aged 22 and 19 years.
My time in the MOD helped me to develop a strong reputation for being able to communicate to all levels of management and adopt a flexible, pragmatic approach to risk management.
This proved to be invaluable for my career change in 2000 as working in the private sector offered different challenges regarding policies, procedures and communication through the relevant organisations I work with.
While the style of communication may have changed, I still retain great respect within my client base regarding my ability to present ideas and suggestions across the employee spectrum. In turn, this has helped in the setting up and maintaining of Health and Safety management systems in companies ranging from small businesses and charities to bigger “blue chip” organisations.
My other ‘speciality’ is my ability to understand, through conversation and interaction with managers and employees, the culture of an organisation. This has proved invaluable for clients as I will always take what I have learned into consideration when suggesting ideas to support recommendations regarding risk management and successful communication of the safety message.
