QSE Manager | 07.2011 - 09.2016 | Report directly to the company director, with his guidance I implemented and advised on all H&S matters for the Facilities team liaising with our client and my NHS Trust and Brookfield Construction counterparts. I ensured that H&S was co-ordinated for the NHS trust where I was based. This formed part of a Private Finance Initiative project of which there were three separate Trusts as well as our client (the Landlord), I therefore had a close working relationship with a number of senior stakeholders. There were a number of contractors who I assisted in managing the wide range of shared services on site. This included, Security, Catering and Portering services, to ensure all providers are offered a co-ordinated approach to H&S on site, which was paramount. As well as sitting on the Trusts Senior H&S committee at the Peterborough PFI Hospital, I also had specific roles including, the Authorised Person for Medical Gas and the Resposible Person for Water Management (Legionella).
The campus which had in excess of £70m of M&E installation including its HV island, a stand alone City Care Centre as well as the on site Mental Health Unit.
My role involved
To allow implementation of safe systems into the workplace, I reviewed and updated contract policies and procedures along with the site and company H&S policy, the practical procedures required to implement safe systems into the workplace, ways to influence and promote a positive safety culture at all levels. There were a range of hazardous substances used within the facilities role and I had responsibility for managing the COSHH management system (Sypol) across the contract.
From a Facilities perspective, I assisted in the implementation and maintaining strict technical standards within the contract KPI’s and NHS Hospital Technical Memorandum’s. Taking the lead in the management of contractors and specialist sub-contractors, ensuring they were aware of the hazards associated with the work they carried out and that they followed the safe systems expected of them. In both Technical and H&S I acted in a supporting and advisory capacity at all levels. Working closely at director level across the contract, I reported directly to the Brookfields Contract Director and was part of a Senior Management Team reporting on a monthly basis. I set up and rolled out e-learning and project managed the new waste management contract across all related Trust sites. At the time of leaving I was in the process of setting up an Integrated Management System (IMS) for the contract. |
