Brent Hudson is a highly respected consultant with over 40 years of experience delivering practical, effective safety and compliance solutions across diverse sectors including manufacturing, engineering, defence, and specialist industries. As Technical Director of Machinery Safety & Compliance Services Ltd (MSCS), Brent leads with a deep understanding of PUWER, CE/UKCA marking, EMC, EMF and associated harmonised standards.
Brent Hudson began his professional journey as an indentured engineer, completing rigorous technical training that instilled in him the discipline, precision, and problem-solving skills that have underpinned his entire career. His apprenticeship, ONC, HNC, HND and MIEEE seems a long time ago but this engineering foundation provided not only a deep understanding of machinery and production systems but also the practical insights that have enabled him to become one of the foremost authorities in machinery safety and compliance.
His background includes senior leadership in two EU Notified Bodies, Brent has an encyclopaedic knowledge of CE/UKCA marking and legal compliance, particularly under the Machinery Directive, PUWER, and associated ISO/EN standards. He represented the European Commission during the third wave of accession, assisting Romania, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic in aligning with EU safety laws—receiving a letter of commendation from the Czech Government for his work. He continues to guide companies through regulatory transitions with absolute precision.
Brent’s work focuses on making complex requirements accessible, delivering pragmatic solutions that enhance safety without creating unnecessary operational obstacles.
Brent is a Fellow of IIRSM and a Global award-winning innovator whose safety technologies have achieved widespread recognition. His contribution extends beyond consultancy to training, having developed and delivered RoSPA and IIRSM-approved machinery safety courses designed to build in-house competence and reduce dependency on external advisors.
Brent regularly serves as a guest lecturer in the Occupational Safety and Health faculty at the University of Sunderland, delivering technical lectures on risk, machinery safety, and compliance—free of charge. He does this to give back to the community and to inspire the next generation of safety professionals. His sessions blend real-world case studies with regulatory insight, helping students bridge the gap between theory and practice.
