Mr Dan Vintila
MBA, LLB, BEng, IEng CMIOSH, CMILT
Overview
After nearly 15 years as consultant and engineer, I firmly believe in using process-driven technological solutions coupled with statical analysis in all I do, specifically in Health and Safety.
In general but also in Health and Safety "... as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know" (Donald Rumsfeld). There are also unknown knowns, those are the things we... forgot we knew, but the most perilous kind are the unknown unknowns, and these are the most numerous by far. Implementing a process-based approach, using competent and qualified professionals reduces all the unknowns and thus ensures adequate risk management.
It is my credo that there is no job that cannot be done safely. Through compentency, training and planning we can lower risks so that we may begin to contemplate more complex tasks in a more dynamic environment. It was patience and meticulous planning that got us to the moon safely and will take us further. But we cannot know all risks and, it is for that reason that we must be competent, patient, planned and "...We must act, knowing that our work will be imperfect. We must act, knowing that today’s victories will be only partial..." (Barak Obama -inauguration speech)
