I previously 27 years’ experience within the criminal justice system, including Health, Safety and Fire Coordinator role delivering health, safety and fire standards across the prison to ensure operational delivery and compliance with all Legislation. 

Budgetary control over health, safety and fire issues 

Experienced in advising on and carrying out risk assessments, safety inspections, safety audits and accident investigations.  

Carrying out fire drills and evacuations of all areas of the prison ensuring the safety and security of the prison was maintained. 

Responsibility for delivering induction training to prisoners within the work sheds such as the Farms and Gardens, Waste Management and Kitchen on the use of the machinery and safe systems of work in place  

I am a trained A1 SVQ Assessor as well as a trainer for fire awareness which I   delivered to staff at all levels of the organisation 

Recording and sharing of all health and safety data using various methods at health and safety meetings 

Responsibility for recording of all health and safety data locally for the health and safety team at SPS Headquarters and advising Management locally on best practice within the SPS. Liaising with agencies such as Scottish Fire and Rescue, Environmental Health and the HSE

Health and safety Consultant with Citation which involves carrying out health and safety services for clients. These can be clients such as construction, care homes and transport and logistics. The role involves carrying out a GAP analysis and creating a site visit report on both positive and negative findings and working with the client to rectify any issues. I will also create a health and safety policy for the clients and carry out an install with them of our systems. The role also involves supporting the clients in a crisis such as a fatality or major incident / accident and carrying out investigations and preparing written reports of findings for the client along with recommendations. I also assist in the preparation of risk assessments and method statements for any tasks that require them. I Have 58 care homes for two clients which I carry out inspections for to ensure that they are health and safety compliant.
